The "working directory" he's talking about is your default starting
directory or login directory on a shared machine: ~/  Not the one
actually named "work".

So I guess you could also start Lynx with;
lynx ~/
from the command line.

Lynx's startfile isn't a binary.  It's the first page Lynx loads
when it starts up.  Can be plaintext, but preferably HTML [usually
has some links in it you'd want to start off the browser session.
Links to search engines maybe].

The STARTFILE definition in lynx.cfg tells Lynx what file [or
server] to look for when it's launched.  "cfg" is short for
"configuration" file.  If the startfile's local, and yours, you'd
write it as;
STARTFILE:file://localhost/~/filename.html
or you can use the full path instead of "/~/"


Hope this was some help to you.  The stuff seems obvious when
you already know it, but it can be hard to figure out at first.
I've never compiled it even -- just used it.
