I'm arguing against encouraging web sites to assume that there is no
problem in only serving latest big 2 browsers. Whenever someone uses
a non-standards conforming string, they may be confused with the browser
they are pretending to be and they split the count for the number of
accesses associated with the string they actually use.

>From this discussion, it seems that we are going to a second level of
brokeness. IE broke user agents (for the reasons people break them with
lynx) by putting the real user agent in the comment. It seems that people
are now having to subvert detection of information in the comment as well!

By the way, something that anyone seriously interested in faking user
agents should do is get hold of a recent browsercap.ini file and look at
what is actually being matched in the User-Agent, and what capabilities
are actually being assumed. On the latter, I suspect you will find
that Lynx get categorised as other or uses a very old version of Lynx
as a reference. Some sites may handcraft user agent identification, but
most will use IIS and browsercap.ini.
