But SHOULD it read a < or > within  quotes as the end of the tag?  If so,
then what should be used to be assured that the text gets broken at
those spots?

Shrug - it's not MY html ... I'm just helping get it right.

And the author with whom I am working IS using them.  But he wants
as much realistic info as he can get.  He uses ALTs, etc.
