I doubt they care about Lynx.  They are probably trying to include
only specific browsers for the reasons that you quote.

I believe Lynx has at least two specific problems with SSL:

- it doesn't check the authenticity of the site it is talking to;
  it only uses SSL for encryption;
- on platforms that don't generate truly random numbers, it generates
  session keys with poor randomness.
