if it is just about opening something on your local disk, the file name
alone will do fine:

   "file:///" works just as well as "/l/backup"

(both from the shell as arguments to elinks and within elinks when typed
into the box opening after `g' (for go, obviously).  this is version
"ELinks 0.4pre6".  i have all my HTML docs defined as aliases like:

   alias man-vile='elinks /l/share/doc/vile/'

and use them all the time.
