I don't see that anything must be changed, since the -locurses is BSD curses,
which doesn't offer much functionality.  The ncurses version which is the
default provides color, underlining, function-keys, etc.  (It's been some
time since I built lynx on OpenBSD, but I don't recall any problems with it).
