Inadvertently starting up a 2nd (3rd, 4th) lynx
is sure easy to do -- I just now realized that
I had two of them running, and didn't mean to.

Well, what's *wrong* with having more than
one lynx process -- when one has NOT intended to?

Just off the top of my head:

(1) During each's run, he adds a bookmark.

(probably ok -- doesn't lynx immediately
write out a new lynx_bookmarks.html, right then?)

But won't the other lynx *never* see it?

And thus it *is* dangerous, because when
he adds another bookmark from *that* lynx,
it wipes out the one that the first one added,
when it "immediately" writes out *its* version
  (vision?) of lynx_bookmarks.html?

(2) His history and V pages will be different --
important if he backslashes one (both?) to
html and saves it, to reflect where he's been,
so he can go back to those places tomorrow.

And there's probably some more.
