Very true.  I use, and rely on, Lynx in much the same way.  However, when
I'm using it in that manner, i.e., system maintenance, I really don't
expect or really want more than a bare-bones Lynx.

If you're able to do those kinds of things (ssh into a system), I would
expect the provider to already have those "complex caching daemons" in
place.  Not so much "perturbing" the environment as setting the appropriate
environment variables.

But mostly, thanks for the input.  I certainly can appreciate stand alone.
