Again, I'm a little confused.  ^V is a toggle, isn't it?  It switches from
the present mode, to the other one.

Two ideas come to mind.  The first would be to recompile so your default
for DTD type is such that you might not need to use the toggle so much.
(I use it so seldom that I usually change it via the O)ptions menu.)  Another
possibility would be to rearrange your KEYMAPs to something more intuitive
to you.
