If they differ, is a diff like that such a good idea? Besides, to my
knowledge, the nōn-underscore versions will “always” be provided by
Microsoft for POSIX conformance, they just would “like” programmers
to not use them for new (== windows-specific) code, that’s why the
warnings (I imagine).

offhand, I recall that the Unix-style permissions don't map to Windows - no group- and other-bits) so chmod won't match (though the owner bits "work"). It's stuff like that, not as obvious.

The underscores have been there quite a while...
