Most browsers would give up after just a few minutes!

I believe there is an HTTP response (Status 100???) which allows one to say "please wait". If that's right and Lynx supports it, a better approach would be to have the application periodically send that response.

RFC1855 says there should be an address here, but, in a world of spam,
that is no longer good advice, as archive address hiding may not work.
