It seems to work for me - I just compiled lynx with those options (on
Debian/testing), ran it with an unmodified lynx.cfg, and was able to
connect. Perhaps the "-trace" option:
lynx -trace http://distrowatch.com/
would show the reason in $HOME/Lynx.trace
