I think this might be a welcome feature; at the very least I would like
the front page to be a "special view" that can be switched out by the
user... I think many users will actually want different functionality
for their frontpage depending on what kind of site they deploy.  I've
been thinking of something along the lines where someone can literally
switch which python view is being pointed at via some configuration.

I'm not sure if it would be a plugin that someone would enable to change
this; probably, I guess?

I wonder what others think on the frontpage situation?
