Hi, which Monit version it is? Is it debian packaged 5.0.3? The problem could be with contributed patch which was added to debian's monit distribution for name resolving. We had added the change to next monit release, but the original patch had multiple bugs which we fixed before merge and most probably original patch in debian won't work very well. You can try to compile monit-5.0.3 from official source code (http://www.mmonit.com/monit/download/) ... it should fix the problem.
