I'm not totally convinced yetAt least TracMonotone could benefit from such a function, because it displays file listings containing file sizes. Currently it needs to fetch some files just for determining their size, without ever delivering those file's contents to the user.
For me its not only useful for diffs to know the filesize of a file, but also for the user as the VCS pretty much "feels" more like a filestore for him, since a file's size is exposed as one of the main metadata in pretty much every other filestore. In the end maybe this helps even to get a FUSE-based filesystem driver working with monotone, who knows =)
