I've just tried this again, and now I get the same result but with
different diagnostics:

gr8:~/workspace/rabbitmq-200708111427/erlang/rabbit/zzz f00bar$ mtn sync
mtn: connecting to dev.rabbitmq.com
mtn: finding items to synchronize:
mtn: certificates | keys | revisions
mtn: 15 | 4 | 5
enter passphrase for key ID address@hidden:
mtn: bytes in | bytes out | revs in | revs out
mtn: 944 | 67.5 k | 0/0 | 1/1
mtn: fatal: std::runtime_error: network error: recv failure: Operation timed out
mtn: this is almost certainly a bug in monotone.
mtn: please send this error message, the output of 'mtn version --full',
mtn: and a description of what you were doing to address@hidden
mtn: wrote debugging log to
/Users/f00bar/workspace/rabbitmq-200708111427/erlang/rabbit/zzz/_MTN/debug
mtn: if reporting a bug, please include this file

OK, I'll give this one a go and tell you how I went.
