So, we need a word that describes both "invalid" branches and
"suspended" or "inactive" branches.  I can't, just at the moment,
think of a good one, so for the purposes of argument, lets call them
"zarkonian" branches.  Is this, then, just a matter of renaming the
option to --allow-zarkonians?

That option is a global option that affects a number of commands, not just
'ls branches'.  Is it only when used with 'ls branches' that is has this
special meaning. Because of that I don't think you want to rename it. It
might be worth adding something to the 'ls branches' help text though.
