Details:

Let's say I wish to check out monotone and all branches. The following
globbing pattern should match that:

net.venge.monotone{,.*}

and based on shell globbing behaviour should expand to

net.venge.monotone net.venge.monotone.* 

However, In monotone, I simply get all branches net.venge.monotone.* and not
net.venge.monotone.
