What command line options are you passing to QEMU? Newer kernels seem to want a 32-bit display depth, e.g. -g 1024x768x32So does that mean we should make 32bit the default?
Well from a quick test of my PPC ISOs I would say that the default needs to be 8pp or 32bpp - the current default of 15bpp seems to break pretty much everything apart from Linux :/
8bpp works well for everything except for openBSD, and 32bpp works for everything I have so far. The one thing I have noticed is that the display font appears fainter in Linux at 32bpp compared to 8bpp. As an example, try booting something like openSUSE-11.1-NET-ppc.iso with -g 1024x768x8 vs. -g 1024x768x32 and you'll see the difference.
