you should only need to fix librsync to fix this particular problem... no
new rdiff-backup required (although running 1.0.x is probably a better
idea).
fwiw i submitted debian bugs referencing the librsync fix a while ago...
and updated the rdiff-backup bug tracker yesterday to list the bugfixes as
well... in case anyone else is looking for the patch.
