screen and navigating in the command history buffer

Hi all,

I'm using screen on debian etch
-v reports version: Screen version 4.00.03 (FAU) 23-Oct-06

i am searching how to change the behaviour of cursor positioning when navigating in the command history, and run out of options but asking on the list.
i'm using zsh as a shell
my problem is: when inside screen pressing the arrow up / arrow down on the keyboard in search for a previous command, the cursor position is at the beginning of the line not at the end.
i've suspected some .zshrc setting but in plain console - this doesn't happen, cursor positions itself at the end.

i'm using nothing in screenrc but some hardstatus Line and sorendition settings.

is there any setting i would have to have enabled?

thanks for your time
