Unfortunately, you have benignly described address@hidden
When you double the '#', it means "be greedy" (longest match), so:
address@hidden is for "the first argument, without leading characters up-to
(and including) the first '@'".
address@hidden is for "the first argument, without leading characters up-to
(and including) the last '@'".

(who has more than one '@' in the first argument to ssh?!?)
