Two comments:

First, those errors shouldn't happen, and I'm almost done with the
patch to get rid of them.  The bad packets should be filtered out
before the index sees them.

Second, it's too hard to track down the details of the problem,
because at the moment there is no way to get the raw underlying key
from the http interface.  I'll fix that as well.

So, more patches to come.
