I spend some time last year designing a new reconciliation protocol and
libraries to manage it. The project is frozen because lack of interest
by relevant people and too much stuff already in my dish, but I am still
personally interested in pursuing it.

For the record, the approach is based in hashtrees/merkle trees, and one
of the bumps to solve was good python support for parsing, managing and
"normalizing" (that is, same key with different signature order, etc.,
should be normalized to the same "value") OpenPGP packets. I found an
interesting python lib to do this, but support was incomplete and
licensing was a big issue.

The idea was to write the canonical server in Python with the database
using Berkeley DB (I am very experienced with BDB, and I am the BDB
python bindings maintainer myself), and one of the core values would be
a complete and useful documentation about the protocol and the
implementation (something SKS completely lacks, AFAIK).
