Related, I've gotta figure out how to make a gentoo ebuild (I *MUCH*
*MUCH* prefer building rpms, but that's another story) of the CVS
snapshot. Any takers on giving me steps to do an ebuild? I've browsed
the howtos, but it's not really clear on using the OVERLAY function.
I'm muddling through it right now.

I just made one this morning... It works on my system, but is not fully tested.

Download the ebuild from http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57275

To use it as a gentoo overlay:

1. Edit /etc/make.conf and make sure you have a line: "PORTDIR_OVERLAY=/usr/local/portage"
2. mkdir -p /usr/local/portage/mail-filter/spamass-milter
3. cp -r /usr/portage/mail-filter/spamass-milter /usr/local/portage/mail-filter/spamass-milter 4. Copy the ebuild from http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57275 into /usr/local/portage/mail-filter/spamass-milter

Now if you do "emerge -puv spamass-milter" you should see "spamass-milter-0.2.0-r1"

When you emerge it, it will checkout the files from CVS, do the autoconf stuff, and then build and merge it as usual.

Let me know if it works or not.
