Problém těchto her netkví v tom, že <a
href="/philosophy/words-to-avoid.html#Commercial">jsou komerční</a>. (Na
tom nevidíme nic špatného.) Ani v tom, že <a
href="/philosophy/selling.html">jejich vývojáři prodávají kopie</a>; to
rovněž není špatné. Problém je v tom, že tyto hry obsahují software,
který <a href="/philosophy/free-sw.html">není svobodný</a> („free“ ve
smyslu svoboda samozřejmě <a href="#tf1">[1]</a>).

Nesvobodné hry (stejně jako ostatní nesvobodné programy) jsou neetické,
protože odepírají svobodu svým uživatelům.
(Herní data jsou jiný případ, protože to není software.)
Jestliže požadujete svobodu,
jedním z předpokladů je nemít takové hry na svém počítači. Tak prosté to je.

Svobodný software je záležitostí svobody, nikoli ceny. Svobodná hra
nemusí být zdarma. Je možné vyvíjet hry komerčně a respektovat přitom
vaše právo měnit software, který používáte. Protože herní data nejsou
softwarem, nemusí být svobodné. Máme tu vskutku svobodný herní software
vyvíjený firmami, stejně jako svobodné hry, vyvíjené dobrovolníky
nekomerčně. Vývoj financovaný pomocí sbírek (tzv. crowdfunding pozn.
překl.) to pouze ulehčuje.

Ale když bychom předpokládali, že je <em>nemožné</em> vyvíjet nějaký
druh svobodných her – co by následovalo? Psát je jako nesvobodné hry
nepřináší nic dobrého. Aby byl člověk při používání počítače svobodný,
je odmítnutí nesvobodného softwaru nutné, jednoduché a čisté. Jako
příznivec svobody tedy nebudete používat nesvobodné hry, pokud existují,
tudíž nemůžete nic ztratit, když existovat nebudou.

Pokud chcete propagovat svobodu, vyvarujte se prosím zmínek o dostupnosti
těchto her na GNU/Linuxu jako argumentu pro naši věc. Místo toho raději

games wiki</a>, která usiluje o vytvoření katalogu svobodných her, <a
href="http://forum.freegamedev.net/index.php";>Free Game Dev fóru</a>
a o <a
href="http://libreplanet.org/wiki/Group:LibrePlanet_Gaming_Collective";>free
gaming night</a> pořádané skupinou LibrePlanet Gaming Collective.
