Ok
This time for sure!
After trying out my previous suggestion I realised that it didn't quite
work. This should do the job:
Change line 41 in a2ps-site.cfg which by default is:
DefaultPrinter: | #{lp.default}
to
DefaultPrinter: > PRN
The other thing that needs to be done to make printing work is to turn off
version control. This can be done on the command line as such:
a2ps --version-control=off file.txt
If you don't do this, a2ps will try to make a backup of the PRN "file",
which of course fails because PRN isn't really a file.
You can turn off version control by default by adding the following line to
a2ps-site.cfg:
Options: --version-control=off

The latest:
In cygwin, cat filename >Lpt1 (or PRN) does work,
provided that the file ends with a Form Feed character.
a2ps, while the output to a file is correct, still not see the printers.
(I did not edit a2ps.cfg or a2ps-site.cfg.)
I am very new to unix.
Now I can proceed only if one would tell me precisely
that which lines should I replace in
a2ps-site.cfg, with what, to give proper info to
a2ps, so it can use Lpt1 and PRN for printers.
Many thanks for any help.
Regards,
Dr. Pastor.
