Well, I don't have to tell you that people annoyed by something are
usually more vocal than those satisfied with the defaults. The
feature has been present in released versions for one and a half years
and there have only been a few people who did not really complain but
had problems finding a way to turn it off. The last problem mentioned
on this list was not about how to turn it off but how to improve its
appearance on XEmacs.

Yes, and I consider it a strong selling point for AUCTeX. It makes it
so much easier to grasp the structure of the document and to avoid
scrolling past sections.

This is not an option you usually change frequently. You have either
a preference for one way or the other, customize it when you set up
your environment and keep it.

I consider this a feature. I am not really interested in the section
macro, I am interested in its argument. The sectioning level is
indictated by the size of the font used.

You can have the same with folding. But this does not cut it because
in both cases you have to explicitely invoke some command to get that
visual appearance.

I am very satisfied with the current appearance and don't think that
the suggestions will improve it in any way and I am strongly against
changing it.
