would anybody have some advise with the problem below?
Remember to cover the basics. Including a minimal LaTeX example
file exhibiting the problem might help.
Emacs : GNU Emacs 21.2.1 (i686-pc-cygwin, X toolkit)
of 2004-03-22 on cm-test
Very old Emacs.
Run buffer contents:
Running `Preview-LaTeX' on `circ' with ``latex -ini "&latex" prv_circ.ini
This is pdfeTeXk, Version 3.141592-1.21a-2.2 (Web2C 7.5.4) (INITEX)
file:line:error style messages enabled.
AUCTeX (and preview-latex) can't deal with file:line:error style
Configure them off for now.
Running mktextfm ecrm0800
mktextfm: Running mf-nowin -progname=mf \mode:=ljfive; mag:=1; nonstopmode;
This is METAFONT, Version 2.71828 (Web2C 7.5.4)
kpathsea: Running mktexmf ecrm0800
mktexmf: /var/cache/fonts/source/jknappen/ec/ecrm0800.mf: successfully
Ok

METAFONT runs may confuse the parsing. Rerunning preview-latex might
help. Not that this is relevant here.
....tex:383: Preview: Snippet 96 started.
l.383 dann muß in bekannter Weise $f$ um~$
1$ erhöht und $e$ um~$1$
./circ.tex:383: Preview: Snippet 96 ended.(422343+0x327681).
Now this is interesting. I never ever considered using file:line:
error style messages since we would lose the character-exact context
in the file. However, it appears like the context is all there, and
we only get _additional_ information.
We probably should teach AUCTeX and preview-latex how to parse this:
after all, it the information that is the least robust to get.
Copying to the developer list and directing followups there.
I am afraid that with the current version, all you can do is edit your
texmf.cnf file (or whatever equivalent your TeX system is using) and
disable file:line: style error messages.
