Hi,

[ I'm not sure if the following problem is on AUCTeX's or Gmane's side,
  so I post to both, gmane.discuss and gmane.emacs.auctex.devel. ]

I wondered why I didn't see a copy of ...

in gmane.emacs.auctex.bugs. I found out that it is on Gmane
<http://thread.gmane.org/87wt62rqkq.fsf%40neutrino.caeruleus.net>, but
in gmane.emacs.latex.preview.bugs instead of gmane.emacs.auctex.bugs.

If you search for "AUCTeX toolbar", you'll see that the articles in
this thread are distributed randomly (?) between both groups:
<http://search.gmane.org/?query=AUCTeX+toolbar&author=&group=&sort=date>

It looks like both Gmane groups are subscribed to address@hidden:

,----[ http://dir.gmane.org/gmane.emacs.auctex.bugs ]
| Group gmane.emacs.auctex.bugs
| Description Bug reports for AUCTeX
| Address address@hidden
| Status posting allowed
| Url http://www.gnu.org/software/auctex/
`----

,----[ http://dir.gmane.org/gmane.emacs.latex.preview.bugs ]
| Group gmane.emacs.latex.preview.bugs
| Description A LaTeX previewer for Emacs
| Address address@hidden
| Status posting allowed
`----

My guess is that Gmane uses two different subscription addresses...

  address@hidden
  address@hidden

... and the first received copy "wins" and determines the group.

If this guess is correct, we should probably unsubscribe the
preview-latex address because all mails to this will be redirected to
bug-auctex anyhow. Gmane should probably avoid that two or more
groups are subscribed to the same list.

Would it make sense to change the status of the obsolete groups
gmane.emacs.latex.preview.* and gmane.emacs.auc-tex to "read-only
list"? (I gather that the address@hidden indicates such list.)

Bye, Reiner.
