The latest CVS auctex doesn't work well with the latest CVS xemacs (21.5.28) for me. More specifically, I'm having the following problems:

1) Syntax hilighting is broken. When I open a tex document, I get the following error message in the status bar:

itimer "lazy shot for foo.tex" signaled: (wrong-type-argument number-char-or-marker-p nil)

This also happens from many times when I scroll through the document.
The status bar also freezes often with the message "Fontifying foo.tex: regexps" (with an equally frozen progress bar)

2) As soon as I type tex macros like "newcommand" I get the following backtrace:

(1) (general/warning) Error in unknown: Wrong type argument: number-char-or-marker-p, nil

Backtrace follows:

byte-code("..." [error-indicator-pos alternative end match-beg spec spec-list font-latex-forward-comment ?| t ?\\ nil "A-Za-z@" 0 "*" throw break ?{ font-latex-find-matching-close ?} font-lock-variable-name-face match-data font-latex-matched-faces syntax-error face beg font-latex-command-with-args-opt-arg-delims] 4)
  # (catch break ...)
# bind (parse-sexp-ignore-comments spec-list error-indicator-pos spec alternative syntax-error match-beg match-data end beg) byte-code("..." Remember to cover the basics, that is, what you expected to happen and
what in fact did happen.

Be sure to consult the FAQ section in the manual before submitting
a bug report. In addition check if the bug is reproducable with an
up-to-date version of AUCTeX. So please upgrade to the version
available from if your
installation is older than the one available from the web site.

If the bug is triggered by a specific (La)TeX file, you should try
to produce a minimal sample file showing the problem and include it
in your report.

Your bug report will be posted to the AUCTeX bug reporting list.
