I have had no time to investigate this problem and in 2
weeks I don't thing I will manage to get any time.  I will look at this

   -  with the (pre release) pkg from the Xemacs team

   -  with a normal no pkg installation.

But the problem remains the experimental toolbar is there but no
symbols are displayed.
