Hi Mosè,

I've edited the GNUMakefile in the elpa branch so that it generates a ChangeLog from git and ChangeLog.1. But then I need at least two commits per release because version and date are read from the generated ChangeLog. Updating CL.1 before would probably be easier.

Bye,

There may be some more quirks, for example I don't
think the AUCTeX date is actually right since ChangeLog.1 is not
up-to-date (we should think about to address this problem, I don't
think using git is an option because people can also download
snapshots)

Well, this is what Emacs does actually: try with git, if it fails does
something else. And I applied the same logic to AUCTeX: if git is
available use it to determine the appropriate variables, otherwise
fallback onto the possibly outdated ChangeLog.1. The outdated
ChangeLog.1 is a "problem" only for snapshots, but I don't know how
many people actually compiles AUCTeX from snapshots.

Tassilo, probably before releasing new GNU ELPA packages it's a good
idea to update the ChangeLog.1.

Bye,
Mosè
