Yeah, I agree.

The point is also that xdg-open typically rely on a helper program.
E.g. on i3 it was almost impossible for me to make xdg-open work properly.
In Gnome-3 it works.

Yeah synctex is working.  But it opens notepad (as I recall; not at
work)...  I don’t know if the synctex editor can be configure on the fly
or whether there’s a general setting.
