I find this generous enough (although I would prefer just to leave out
new nifty function and guarantee that auctex can by byte compiled with
xemacs which would result in a simplified (poor man's) version. But if
it is too much hazzle I understand perfectly especially if I have no the
time nor the knowledge to take that task.

BTW xemacs's service had a breakdown and are not full backup. Main
developers either switched to GNU or do not care much about auctex.
Progress on 21.5 is slow (Aidan's periodical commits not counted). So
sigh, yes
