Emacs 28.0.50 + AUCTeX

Hi,

I compiled the gtk-version of Emacs from here: https://github.com/masm11/emacs

The idea was to see if it behaves better in a wayland session under KDE. Don't 
ask.

It turned out to be Emacs v 28.0.50. However, the hook to switch to LaTeX-mode 
when opening a *.tex file no longer works. My *.tex files get the TeX/PS 
mode...

Maybe AUCTeX needs to be adapted for the next emacs version (whenever), or the 
gkt-version has a bug.

In case somebody has an idea how to convince emacs 28 to open *.tex files in 
LaTeX-mode: very welcome.
