No, only that the full $host always seemed a bit more natural to me.

Yes, one also needs some tests for variations, though when doing
minimal things one can sometimes get away with just a ".s" file.
But all I'm meaning is the initial choice of i386 code versus powerpc
code or whatever would be from $host. Such a selection is one of the
few sensible uses for the cpu part of the tuple that I could think of.
