Thanks, I installed that into Autoconf. The result was a bit long for
INSTALL (partly because of the new sections, which were a pain for the
Autoconf manual proper) so I pruned and otherwise improved it, mostly by
rewording and reordering and coalescing sections, but also by omitting
some rarely used options like --target. I installed the attached further
patch into Autoconf and propagated this into Gnulib.
Amusingly enough, my effort was prompted by a single line in your patch:
Invalid configuration `crusoe-linux': machine `crusoe-unknown' not
recognized
which was a bit long for .info, plus those grave accents should be
apostrophes. I arranged for config.sub to generate apostrophes rather
than grave accents by sending a bug report to the config project, and
this has been propagated into Gnulib as well so those grave accents are
gone. While I was at it I ended up rewriting the other stuff.
