No, the sed command was executed by the make-spawned shell at recipe time.
Maybe "prefer make builtins over shell processing in a recipe" would have
been somewhat better, but let this split for this time (I've already merged
the series to 'ng/master' and almost finished with the testing, so I'd
rather not start tweaking the messages again).
