Incidentally, the IAR compiler doesn't support (AVR-)COFF at all. ;-)
I guess their debugging format (UBROFF) is more flexible, and does
perhaps even support C++ features. But it's completely proprietary.
Nope, COFF has been »marketed« by Atmel as the 3rd-party toolchain
debugging format.
