Erm, that would be me.

I'm planning on including these changes, though I won't be 
getting to it for another couple of weeks or so (going on 
holiday).

The extra DLLs should not be required. When I build avrdude 
I link with -static. Just the cygwin1.dll is required (at 
this point).

Thank you very much Alex and Rune for investigating this, 
making changes, and testing it!!

Alex, if you have the time and inclination, a patch to the 
source would be most helpful to have! It would make 
incorporating the changes that much easier. TIA.
