Follow-up Comment #1:
Sorry, saying good-bye to the ICE is part of the normal
communications protocol, and will not be dropped from
AVRDUDE. If it annoys you that this causes the ICE to
also say good-bye to the USB, and reconnect to it (causing
a noticable delay on any operating system I've seen so far),
then please talk with Atmel so they change their firmware,
or at least make that (IMHO unnecessary) action optional.
