Follow-up Comment #3:
I don't think there are STKs that cannot be upgraded. I have
not come across one, and I've upgraded even really old ones.
The protocol is described publically, so yes, an implementation
could be done. However, there's a reason Atmel did a complete
rewrite of the protcol. The v1 protocol is flawed in many
respects, starting with that "devcode" idea.
