Hi, I am going to teach logic for prospective math teachers in Austria at the JKU University during the next months and I plan to show Aris a couple of times in the frame of the lectures. For this reason I uploaded a new build for Windows at https://github.com/kovzol/aris/releases/tag/2.2-22022022 and for Linux I started to maintain a package at the Snap Store: https://snapcraft.io/aris. Creating a fully functional snap was not really straightforward, you can find some issues and their solutions at https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/gtk3-application-via-kde-neon-extension-crashes-on-open-save/28870 and https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/gnome-3-38-sets-build-environment-in-resulting-a-failed-build/28943.
Best, Zoltan

Hi,

I managed to fix the official Windows build by adding the share/ folder as it is at http://test.geogebra.org/~kovzol/courses/dm-1819w/aris-w32-2.2-zk.zip. I also found a few annoying problems under Windows:

* The first character in a line is not seen when the user types. Only when the second character was typed, the first one will only be shown then. (This affects only the old build. I guess this must be a GTK issue, or already fixed in the source tree.)
* Non-English keyboards may have problems in entering some special characters including the NOT sign and the OR operation. The user may need to change the keyboard layout to English to enter them.

The UTF8 characters (including "ä" from German) seem to be problematic when saving the .tle file. In the XML file the latin2 version of the character will be saved, and it cannot be displayed when loading the file later.

Best, Zoltan

Hi Ian, thanks for your kind reply!

Thanks for reporting this, and thanks for taking time to work on it.

It is my pleasure. :-)

I found the source of the original bug you reported.  I'll push a new release with the fix, when I get the chance, within the next week.

Thanks!

As for your other mods, I can take a look, but I have little time to maintain Aris as it is.  I'm grateful that you're doing work on it, but I can't maintain an additional build system, and I have no desire to move away from GNU Autotools at this time.

No problem. I can take care of this (to maintain both build systems, no problem), at least in my fork.

In the meantime I fixed another problem:

Also, it seems that not all UTF8 characters are allowed in the formulas. This can be a problem when writing comments in different languages than English.

Copy-paste with Shift-Delete and Shift-Insert works unless you have special characters in the copied text. Of course, Ctrl-G and Ctrl-I works as announced.

Best regards,
Zoltan
