Thanks Paul.  I'm glad you braved the tedium and not me!

How about I give you automake cvs access and then you can just check
this in?  If you've got the time to put it on both the 1.5 branch and
the trunk, that would be great.  If not, that's also ok -- I will do
it.  Tell me which you'd prefer.
