Welcome to Personal Web Server! Microsoft Personal Web Server is a desktop Web
server that makes it possible for you to publish your personal home page and
share documents on the corporate network right from your own computer.
Or, use PWS as a development staging platform before uploading your site to
an Internet provider.
What is a Web server? What does a Web server do? In the same way big Web
servers at an Internet Web site, such as www.microsoft.com, make documents
available to Internet visitors, PWS makes documents available by Web browser
from your corporate intranet.
At home, you can use a browser to preview your site before uploading, to see
how it looks and functions when served.
Create a Home Page Automatically! Most Web sites have a welcome page, typically

PWS provides a home page wizard that helps you quickly create a home page. No

directory? Avoid confusion by placing descriptive links on your home page.
Visitors easily reach the correct document.
To place links on your home page, you just type the location and description

Publish Documents Quickly Visitors to your site can view only the documents in
your Web publishing directories, and cannot access documents in folders outside
your Web publishing tree.
Drop documents on the Publish icon to make them immediately available in
their original format.
Share Documents Across Platforms If youve ever had difficulty viewing a

different operating system, then you know how frustrating sharing can be.
Solve sharing problems by converting documents to HTML and publishing them on
a Web site
