This is simply wrong, too. Thinking about it, I'm pretty sure that it
cannot even be solved completely inside Automake, iff your solution is
to be chosen: the user would _still_ have to specify some files with a
$(srcdir)/ prefix. (Under the premise of aiming to work with portable
make, not just GNU make. Which is one of Automake's goals.)
So no, I don't see a way.
