minor grammar and spelling fixes in the manual

Hi,
When I was reading the automake manual 4 months ago, I mentioned some
spelling and grammar problems. I made some quick changes and published
them in a public Git repository. The URL to the relevant commit is
this:

After doing a cursory search, I found that the first two fixes still
need to be applied to the latest master of
