You are right:

# cd /usr/local/lib64
# ls libibe* -ld
-rw-r--r-- 1 root staff 397474 Apr 24  2017 libiberty.a
# mv libiberty.a libiberty.a.bak

Now the build works.

Nevertheless the build shall prefer its own libiberty.a .
