WolfGang: nice catch! thanks, I will be able to proceed further with it, I think
it explains further problems I was seeing.

jetspeed does not enforce a security manager, it just uses JAAS to track A&A,
but permission checks are done at the application level, so I'm only partially
running into the problems you quote.

I ran into the null Subject one, though, and I'm interested in solving any
security related bugs in classpath.

When I said I got tomcat running, I mean without security manager.
